Ship name help - 'Torilla?'

4 posts in this topic

Hello,

I can't identify the name of the ship in the attached photo. It looks like 'Tovilla' or Torilla".

It took troops in Nov 1917 from Karachi to Mesopotamia. I'm not sure if Bushire was the disembarkation port or just visited on the way.

I have tried to identify the ship on the Ships List but nothing seemed to match.

Any help appreciated.

cheers

Simon

Simon,

The Torilla was a 5205 grt passenger/cargo steamer built in 1911 by Palmers' SB. & Iron Co., Ltd., Newcastle for British India Steam Navigation Co., Ltd., Glasgow. Official Number: 129589.

Best wishes,

Michael

Thanks Michael,

Now that I know the correct name I can chase further. In fact as you point out, it is on the 'Ships List', but not on the Ships descriptions page under 'T', but British India Steam Navigation Company page.

Thanks for the help.

cheers

Simon
