What can you tell from this photo?

I am a little perplexed by this photo and hoping that someone can advise. The signature clearly shows Egypt 1916 and is of a man named Alexander Pirie. But does that line up with him wearing collar dogs? Is there much else that can be told from his uniform or badges?

All suggestions gratefully received.

Hi,

The scottish Horse bde served in Egypt in 1916.

I have some photo's I will pull one out and post.

Bill Howitson on the righttransferred to 13th (scottish Horse) Bn The Black Watch and died in Rouen on 13/11/18

It looks to me like the Scottish Horse were prolific modifiers of the pocket flaps on their SD jackets.

It looks to me like the Scottish Horse were prolific modifiers of the pocket flaps on their SD jackets.

They appear to have their own unique pattern rather than a modified 1902 type.

Yes, a unique feature of the Scottish Horse service dress was their 3pointed cuff flaps with buttons.
