Handley Page O/400 C9681

7 posts in this topic

In Chaz Bowyer's book on the Handley Page O/400 there is a nice picture of C9681 and Sgt Goldfinch et al  (p. 39) after their marathon effort to deliver the machine to the Middle East 1918. Can anyone furnish me with details on where to find the original. Cannot find any citation for this photo in the book. Looking for much large image or another with machine and Goldfinch. Many thanks in advance.

When the same photograph was used in another book, the ref was given as Air 1/913/204/5/854 (http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4084935)

Thanks for that, will follow up. Are you able to tell the other book in which it appears so I can also get a hold of that. Cheers, very helpful.

Adam,

You'll find it on page 43 of Airway to the East 1918-1920 by Clive Semple, published by Pen & Sword in 2012 (ISBN: 978 1 84884 657 9)

Good luck

Michael

It also appears in 'My Warrior sons – the Borton Family Diary 1914-1918' edited by Guy Slater, pub. by Peter Davies Ltd, 1973 (see illustration No,15 reproduced here http://www.ebay.com/itm/WWI-My-Warrior-Sons-BORTON-FAMILY-DIARY-1914-1918-RFC-RNAS-Palestine-DARDANELLES-/121626307390 )

So, I wonder if the original rests with the Borton family?

If nothing closer to home turns up, then a good portion of the family papers seems to be at Yale - see http://drs.library.yale.edu/HLTransformer/HLTransServlet?stylename=yul.ead2002.xhtml.xsl&pid=beinecke:borton&query=&clear-stylesheet-cache=yes&hlon=yes&big=&adv=&filter=&hitPageStart=&sortFields=&view=c01_6#s6

Hi Michael, I've ordered this book but was wondering if you have a and copy can you tell me if the photo caption has a source, perhaps a number starting with a 'Q'? The googlebooks does not have page 43 available for viewing.

Many thanks,

Adam
