This was my grandfather and he died 99 years ago today near St Quentin in the last major German offensive of WW1. His body was never found or identified. I posted the attached blog about him today (hope the link works) - it got a lot of interest from my friends... RIP

Dear Adrian,

Well done. A fine and poignant memorial to your late grandfather.

My own grandfather (to be seen in the avatar to the left) was wounded on 1 Sep 1918, during the successful Australian attack at Peronne.

He survived and was decorated, but four officers of the battalion (53rd AIF), were killed in action, in addition to many Other Ranks.
