The MG 08. For 100 years out in the weather its actually pretty good.

A little elbow grease and you can probably just buff out any issues!  :D

I have had a pretty thorough run through the congressional records available online that relate to awards of cannons to various municipalities and have not been able to find anything remotely close to this area.  The existence of the second cannon was no help in finding anything...given the plaque indicating a private donation of the Maxim to the Legion Hall I would suspect that the gun was a bring back rather than an award.  I have not gotten any response via that email option on the Legion website so I may just call them next week if I don't hear anything by then.

Ah, elbow grease... Must teach my two boys about that!

But seriously Daniel, keep up the good work there, so that others will learn more also of the heritage they have in their care - slipshod though it seems often to be the case with regard to care!

Hi Ross,

No reply to my email as of today.  I will try a more conventional letter and see if that bears fruit.
