Some areas of the forum are cleaned out at intervals, and the posts they contained are not retained. These areas are "Place to play" (ie test things) and "Skindles" (this area is only viewable once you have reached 300 posts).
In general, on-topic areas are not cleaned out in this way. The only exceptions are threads where there is obviously little point in retaining them: "I'm going to the National Archives next week"/"See you there" or "Great programme on TV next Tuesday" type threads with no lasting value are sometimes cleaned out.
