Hi All,

Whilst researching a New Zealand Nurse I discovered that her Husband was American and from Ancestry I have located his WW1 Draft Registration Card.

Can anyone tell me if this is evidence of him being drafted and if so where would I go to try and find more information about him?

His name is Marshall Ingalls May and he was the American Vice-Consul in New Zealand during the early 1920's

Many thanks!
Grant

Hi Grant,

The presence of a draft registration card does not necessarily mean he served.  What State did he live in?  You might see if he has any service records in the archives for that state, assuming they exist.

Happy hunting,

Daniel

Hi Grant,
An interesting man you got there - saving slaves from the Turks. Quite published I see :D

Here he is serving as Private, First Class at Brigade HQ 1st Kansas Infantry (70th) Brigade:

There is some reference to him in The Santa Fe Magazine. We have a photo of him here:

More details about him leaving for New Zealand with his mother. Tells the story of him saving a slave from the Turks after the war:

The story is told in many newspapers:

Finally we have a brief bio sketch of him in the Register of the state Department, 1928
