In his case unfortunately I believe that he was lost at sea as there was no trace in any of the Southampton cemeteries. The original newspaper report shows that there was 9 reported missing as opposed to killed. This report originally set me on the trail of the graves as killed to me meant that a body had been recovered

One of the men is in my boyhood church at St Marys Sholing where I went to a good number of services. When I go home next I will look him up - but I seem to recall that the graveyard there was in a sad condition when I last looked. Let's hope for an improvement.

Interesting to compare the crew lists - I am from Southampton and have relatives on my Father's side of the family who were merchant seamen and put down roots in the Southampton area to be close to the ships they sailed in.

That was well researched,and a lot of hard work went into  the research.

I have a post card of HMHS ASTURIAS on the back is stamped "RECEIVED FROM HM SHIP NO CHARGE TO BE RAISED" it is addressed to Mrs Sharman 36 George Str Newcastle on Tyne,the writting is neary unreadable,from the loving husband to say that he is all right, , the name I was given was William Sharman same address,but I cannot match him with army records,there is four that are possible matches,are there any lists of the wounded who were brought home in this ship?

A letter from  J.A.Quinn Lieut.RAMC  Dated  Dec 1914,
"I am on board hospital ship Asturias engaged in bringing back the wounded. I have now been on it a month. At first we made trips to Harve,but the lines of communication were made unsafe,so now the  base is at St Nazaire,at the mounth of the Loire. We have just brought  1,200 wounded this trip.All the officers say the men fought magnificently."

I will be in St Mary's Sholing next week and will have a look for the above grave - it's my family church - my Mother and Father were married there, my christening etc.

Interestingly, there is also the grave of Ernest Archer a Titanic survivor who died of TB in 1917 at St Mary's Extra.

I quickly reviewed a list of Titanic survivors later death notices in the Southampton papers but there were no candidates for Asturias casualties that had been aboard the Titanic.

By my reckoning from the information that I received is that there are 34 casualties from the ships crew; 3 have known graves; I have found 20 of the graves; 9 of the crew were reported missing instead of dead
