On Thursday 9th June 2011 at 11 AM  there will be a visit to Victor Richardson's grave in Hove ( Old Shoreham Road Cemetery)  to mark the anniversary of his death from wounds incurred at the battle of Arras with a chance to place flowers and pay respects. Please note that flowers will be removed a few days later once they are no longer fresh. Please post reply or PM me if  interested in attending. The Minister of Saint Barnabas Church, whose parish contains Victor Richardson's family home, will be present.

If there is sufficient interest, can also show other Great War graves at this cemetery.

Pleased to report that on Thursday 9th June three GWF members visited Victor Richardon's grave at 11 AM to mark the anniversary of his death. Also present was Father Keith from St. Barnabas  church in Hove, the parish  where the Richardson family home was situated. Father Keith read some prayers, and flowers, a remembrance cross, a picture of Victor Richardson with Roland Leighton and Edward Brittain, along with a copy of poem by Vera Brittain, were placed on the grave.

Finally have heard back from Victor Richardson's relatives, their decision is that they would like the grave to be fully restored and the money will be raised privately rather than having a public appeal. Now more of a question of costing the work that needs to be done. The Western Front Association have offered some practical advice in this respect but if anyone knows any stonemasons in East Sussex sympathetic to war grave restoration , please let me know, thanks.
In the longer term there will be 'Testament of Youth' the movie being released in the next couple of years, which will hopefully generate more interest in Victor Richardson.

Remembering Victor Richardson on the anniversary of the battle of Arras, 9th April 1917, the horrific wounds that he incurred that day and his courage in battle.. Will visit his grave later this morning.  Plans for the restoration are going ahead. Victor Richardson's family are not seeking publicity at this stage. Also considering another formal visit to the grave on 9th June  2012, which would be the 95th anniversary of Victor's death.
