Please note the lecture will be in FRENCH but there will be time available at the end for questions (in English).

An illustrated lecture commencing with  the Battle of Arras 1917 as seen through newly-discovered panoramic images of  the Artois battlefields. The talk will also include the importance of past  and present battlefield archaeological work in Artois, Flanders (Fromelles), and  near Mametz (Somme), and the need to continue and expand such essential works in  the future.

Peter Barton is an historian, writer and film maker. His  other book titles include Beneath Flanders Fields, The Battlefields of the  First World War, Somme and Passchendaele. Since 2002 he has been  secretary of the All Party Parliamentary War Heritage Group in the British  Parliament, a group who seek to preserve the heritage of British battlefields  around the globe. He works alongside his colleague, the researcher and historian  Jeremy Banning.

I hope that any visitors around the Arras area on Friday will pop into the Wellington Quarry at 1800hrs. It would be good to have some English speakers in the audience too.
