Hello,

I'm trying to find out what this battalion was doing on 6th April 1916 when Lieutenant Charles Widecombe was killed.  If anyone has a war diary entry relating to the action, possibly involved in the Battle of Sannaiyat, I would be very grateful to know more.

Many thanks

Stephen

At dawn on 6th April the British Expeditionary Force launched an attack on the Sannaiyat trenches. The Ox and Bucks were amongst the leading troops. The Turks responded
with what Edmund Candler, the Official Eyewitness, described as a 'torrent of death'. The Ox and Bucks lost all their officers and 220 other ranks out of 266. Despite
further attacks the Expedition failed to reach the besieged town of Kut in time to prevent its surrender due to starvation. Read  the full story in my book 'Battles on
the Tigris.'
