I just thought I'd share one of the images, in watercolour, by Virton artist Nestor Outer. Although painted at the time most are based on secondhand accounts; they are evocative nonetheless:

He also kept a diary which has been expanded and published locally, in two volumes, covering the fighting of August through the four years of occupation (including the deportations) to the liberation:
