    William Smith was private 558 in 1/6 South Staffs in WW1 fought at Hill 60 and Loos
    James Smith was a private in 2nd Ox and Bucks. He landed in a Horsa glider near Ranville Normandy on D-day, fought at Battle of Bulge, Rhine crossing and Palestine. Jim sadly lost his final battle, that being against Cancer.

The two maps shown of the chase its railway and its camps (Page 47 of the link) I managed to scrounge from a local 'source' and damn good they are too. As an aside the maps also show traces of old practice trench systems. Which with a bit of hunting about are still there. Much easier to find during the winter months when most of the ferns have died away.

Looks like most of the information in the article has been taken from the excellent book, A Town For Four Winters by CJ & GP Whitehouse.

Great place to mooch about and with a little bit of luck you may get to see the odd Fallow Deer or Stag too.

One picture  is a view of part of the Tackeroo railway cutting that is next to the Glacial boulder.

The other is a practice trench system.
