[Lancashire Fusilier]

I have 2 interesting sets ( each 50 cards ) of pre-WW2 Players' Cigarette Cards illustrating " Military Uniforms ",
I shall publish them in groups of 5, and hope members find them of interest.
As with the previous thread on WW1 Vehicles, I hope that members will provide actual photographs to match the Cigarette Card illustrations.

Pleased you liked the WW1 Vehicles.
These 2 sets have some 100 cards, and are very interesting with great images - problem is smoking all these cigs!

Thank you for sharing these photos.  I have seen plenty of photos of ciggie cards, but living in the U.S., I don't see too many of them, a few here and there, but not that many.

Hello,

I think I am right in saying that the illustrator was Lance Cattermole, hence the LC monogram, an Englishman who served with the Canadians in WW1. There was an article about him in an early Stand T0!.

I cannot recall the Stand To that the article was in, but I think it must have been in the second or third volume. I had a brief correspondance with Lance Cattermole. I wrote my undergraduate dissertation on the war illustrators, and corresponded with any veteran I could find who had an artistic background.

I will try to fiond the Stand To!. The WFA has reprinted some of the early issues as bound volumes.

You obviously have an appreciation for this subject matter.
Half of the 90 cards in the combined sets have the " LC " monogram, the others do not. However, they were obviously all done by the same artist, as you will see.
If you can track down the article on Lance Cattermole, I should love to read it.
