I am trying to locate a photograph of Lieutenant John Dennis Goulty Macfadyen M.C. of the 1st Battalion the Tank Corps. He was killed in action on the 8th August 1918 and he came from Letchworth, Herts. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Regards to all.

Hi Michael,

I am researching all the soldiers killed from Letchworth at the moment and have been for some time for a book. I have a fair bit of info on MacFadyen, the family were very well known in the town (John's father being on the town committee and being the town's main GP). I'm afraid I don't have a picture of him (I have every page of the local newspaper for the entirity of the war, there is no photo of him).

I have a feeling that although his family were from Letchworth, he possibly moved away pre-war. I certainly have plenty of pictures of his father and if I have a closer look maybe a few more bits about him. His father wrote a few interesting articles supporting consciencious objectors in the early years of the war and a I wonder how he felt once the war had taken his son... an interesting family by all accounts!

Feel free to contact me if there is anything you would like relating to the family.

Can I ask what your link is to john?

I'd be inetesrted to know about anything you have on him...

Regards

Dan

Hello Dan,
I am at present researching the medals awarded to the 1st battalion of the tank regiment during the Great War and  would appreciate anything that you have on the Macfadyen family especially the photo images of Dougald Macfadyen who I believe was a Minister and author.  I have all the information that is readily available from the internet.
Regards,
Mick.
