A TV heads up - I understand that the BBC's "Inside Out" at the end of February will feature the work of Sue Raftree  (JCCC/MOD) and it will include an interview with the relatives of Captain Pritchard HAC whose remains were found at Bullecourt  - the Forum may get an "assist" mention for its role in "finding" the relatives!

Having now met these relatives, I can confirm that they are lovely people who are absolutely delighted to find that their relative has been found and are very much looking forward to his eventual honoured burial.

Will post the exact date when it is known.

That would appear to be of great interest. Something to look forward to.

Which 'Inside Out' programme area though? Isn't it different for different regions?

Living in London, we got the opening bars to 'Inside Out, Newcastle', before it quickly switched to the London version. Yes, the programme is regionalised.
I wonder if the iPlayer will be able to sort this one out?

I think that Freeview does include the various BBC regional variations as my wife sometimes watches the Yorkshire news from down here in Surrey when her mum advises her of an interesting piece - "Man bites dog in Meltham" or similar.

When I have more info , I will update this.

Hello everybody

Inside Out for West Midlands and Inside Out West will carry the story. It is a 10 minute segment of which we will be a tiny part! So I am not holding my breath!

I was interviewed at length and I DID mention the Great War Forum as how I found out - so I hope they show that bit!! Jennifer my cousin was filmed and also Uncle Harold - named after the great man too. So a lot to pack in. I assure you we will be a minor part!!!

There is a whisper of a longer programme in future about it all because although they have had another family who went through the burial process, they would like to follow a family going through the whole thing.
Apparently in 12 years, there have only been two cases of identifiable bodies - so one lot a while ago and now us.

Does that sound right to you?

A very interesting topic for sure, even more interesting is exactly what has happened to the remains of the 15 British Soldiers found in Beaucamp-Ligny in November 2009?. I am guessing NOTHING!

No... there have been quite a few more than just two identified in that time!

I have poked about on my Free-sat box and found BBC West Midlands on Channel 963 - presumably Sky will also carry the BBC regional variation. Not sure about Virgin.

From World War 1? This is what I was told, and I was astonished I admit. I think the problem comes that without DNA testing, and that only works if you have somebody in the family to test against of course, the only way is through artefacts - many of which are just not there anymore

Difficult not to come to the conclusion that the JCCC is under-resourced - though Sue was travelling far and wide to meet relatives that had been found or came forward.

At one stage I saw the words "Beaucamp-Ligny" flash across the screen on a whiteboard - one wonders how this inquiry is going?

The JCCC must breath a sigh of relief when they are told that an aircraft and crew has been found as the ID work will be so much easier. When men are found on the battlefields of the Great War , it is so much more difficult - but happily not so in the case of Captain Pritchard!

I am glad because I know the thrill and unexpected poignancy of discovering a relative however distant whom you can honour in a major way

He may just be the 2nd identified for the Bullecourt area. The other was Sgt.White.
I saw Moise at Jean's service & he says 'thankyou' for the invitation out with you all.
Sounds like he had a great time!
Dave.
