[BradfordWW1]

Hi thought you might be interested to read about how one town reacted to the news of the outbreak of war. This article is based on local newspaper reports for the month of August and shows how the town came to resemble a garrison town for a time

I am also working on creating timelines for events that happened in Bradford over the course of the war they will be added as time permits

Hi Kathryn,
are you part of thr bradford world war one group ?, their book "bradford in the great war " is very interesting, my friends grandfather was alfred brightrick spence from quarry road heaton, he was a member of the bradford pals battalion and was killed on the first day of the battle of the somme, he is remembered on the thiepval memorial.

It was interesting to look at your blog. I have been researching the Greengates area for a considerable time, and i suspect from your name index that you have picked up some information on some at least of the greengates and idle casualties. I was was fortunate to have almost completed my work in the local studies library by last autumn before disaster struck. On my next round of Yorkshire visits I'll probably be using the Liddle Collection and Leeds newspapers, the latter to check out a few more Apperley Bridge and Calverley men.

Hi I'm not part of the Bradford WW1 group as they have meetings during the day at a time when I can't make them I'm afraid, but  yes I can highly recommend their book. I am concentrating on the home front and am meticulously going through records of the time currently looking at the Bradford Trades Council minutes which show which issues affected the workforce at home at the time. I live tweet interesting snippets from the archives when I am there. I have been going at least once a week for the last year and a half. I'd be interested to share any information and links to other websites etc this is very much work in progress I have a lot of information still waiting to be written up.
