I came across a VM to -

2501 Sapper Kalu. 1.S&M

There are 8 MIC for Sappers but none for this man. They also have GS medal. GSM India on the MIC.
There is one Kalu with no number.

Have I missed something?, as I presume there should be a list of medals to Indian troops.

I also checked the 2501 number alone and it did bring up some Indian troops but of different names.

I would appreciate some expert help.(or any help really!)

Thanks

Steve M

The medal index cards for Great War Indian soldiers are not held at the National Archives but for some reason some of the GSM medal index cards are in their possession. The 1919 Afghanistan campaign if I remember rightly. The Great War Indian MICs were held by the India Office but I am not sure if they have survived.

Regrettably the Indian MICs no longer exist As you say some come up with the National Archive because of GSM entitlement

There was a story that they were passed over to the new Indian government along with various other India Office papers on independence.

Thank you all. There ends my research into him!

Although I do have an Indian contact who may be able to help.
