19 March 2012 - Guest Speaker: Professor Peter Simkins



"KITCHENER'S ARMY: THE RAISING OF THE NEW ARMIES"



After working as archivist and research assistant to the late Captain Sir Basil Liddell Hart, Professor Peter Simkins joined the staff of the Imperial War Museum in 1963, remaining there for over thirty-five years and retiring as its Senior Historian in 1999. In that year he was awarded the MBE for his services to the IWM. He was Honorary Professor in Modern History at the University of Birmingham from 1999 to 2010 and is currently a Visiting Lecturer in the University's Centre for War Studies, where he helps to teach the MA course in First World War Studies. He was elected Honorary President of the Western Front Association in 2011 and is also a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, and a member of the Douglas Haig Fellowship and the British Commission for Military History.



Our branch meetings are held in the Lord Mayor's Room,
New Walk Museum, Leicester LE1 7EA.
