Are we going to have a leap-year get-together at the Pineapple on Wednesday 29 February?

Sorry Mick.

I am working (although some may dispute this) in Hanwell until 7pm so will have to give this one a miss :(

Please let me know if the ham, egg & chips were to the usual standard

*ponders*

I'm due to be in Oxford at least until lunchtime that day, and will be driving.

Driving in London is out because it leaves me feeling not only :o but also  and sometimes  .

However I suppose I could skirt London and park the car at Woking station before catching the train to Waterloo...

I might make it, in fact. We have a Staff Conference on that day and I should be back around 7 pm. I'll need a pint. Or several. Have to go home, though, as I have a couple of days off on Thursday and Friday.

No can do as it clashes with my final attendance at a work related social gathering, where I need to say some thanks and goodbyes. Apologies.

This is not looking promising. Perhaps 'the last Wednesday in the month' was not such a good idea after all. Maybe we should go back to haggling out dates on an ad hoc basis? I'm still happy to do the 29th if we can get enough people together (so far, potentially, me, Tony, Glen, Steve and Jane), but it would surely be better if we could agree dates that suit most of the regulars (and hopefully some of our pals from the IWM) and also attract new participants.

Mick - in the second half of last year the last Wednesday worked well. I think the past couple of months have just been a small hiccup. I'd say stick with the idea of the last Wednesday as a rule of thumb. If required, we can always change a specific month to another date.

Mick

I'm likely to be there.

I agree with Jonathan in trying to keep it to a regular date. December was always going to be tricky with the lead up to a busy month and January is awkward because many people got paid early in December. Also, if Mr Hart has his History Club on the last Wednesday, it might help get a few more people along. For people like Andy and Mark who have irregular work patterns, we can always PM an unofficial meet during the month.

Having said all that, I think Wednesday 27th June is a bit close to 1st July to have many attendees so it could be moved to an earlier date and I think the July date is during the Olympics/school holidays etc.

Okay, so let's go ahead with next Wednesday and hope that Pete, Bryn, Alan & co can be there too. Sorry that Jane can't make it perhaps we should organise a Pals' outing to Gosport in March (HMS Alliance restoration fundraising events) and pay her a visit on home ground!

6.30 onwards at the Pineapple?

If planning a trip to Gosport, I could always add a suggestion: Peninsula Barracks, Winchester, which has several very good 9and one excellent  ) military museums. Rifles, Gurkhas, AGC, Royal Hampshire, KRH all in a few minutes' walk of each other.

Anyway, I've been to Gosport: if you travel by road add at least 45 minutes to any figure you first thought of ...

Works better if you come into Gosport in the morning and leave it in the afternoon - the exact opposite of what everyone else is doing. I have made it to Winchester from here in half an hour.

Thinking over the Alliance idea, unfortunately the special tours are on a Saturday when I will be in London - but nothing to hinder people from a) coming to tours anyway B) bolting-on a trip to the RN Submarine Museum when visiting this collection.

That emoticon is what happens when you follow a b with a right-hand parenthesis....

I managed to bolt on a Sub-museum visit about a month ago when I had to visit Pompey and didnt realise we had a resident Pal there. My ticket might even last 12 months ...

Tony can't make it this time, so we seem to have me, Steve, Mark and Glen, potentially plus pals from the IWM (please pipe up). Any other pals care to join us? 6.30pm onwards at the Pineapple, Hercules Road.

You'll be very welcome, Phil. The Pineapple is on the left, about 400yds down Hercules Road, which is opposite the exit from Lambeth North tube station.

Peter Hart reports that he has a speaking engagement in Nottingham on Wednesday evening, but will alert Bryn Hammond and other IWM pals. Any other GWF pals within striking distance would be very welcome.
