In 1914 and 1915 (up to May when they left for Gallipoli) the 7th Scottish Rifles were based in Grangemouth and were a significant part of the community at that time. I believe that the soldiers were housed at various halls and other appropriate buildings and that the officers may have been staying wi various local people in their homes. Does anyone out there have any material from that time to show what they did whilst training in the Grangemouth area or any information on where they may have stayed?

Thanks Ian - where is the source for that?

The battalion photographs were all taken with what is now Abbotsgrange Church in the background (just to the right of the main door) and that church has a hall which might be the YMCA hall?

Regards

Alastair

Thanks for that Ian - there also seems to be a photo of B Company outside the Town Hall on that site which is certainly worth following up
