I'm researching an Alexander Wishart who according to the fragments of service records that have survived, was 'unofficially' taken prisoner on the 9 November 1914 whilst serving with the 1st Battalion East Lancashire Regiment and interred at Doberitz. Seemingly he was repatriated on 3rd December 1917 and I'm wondering if anyone might have any ideas as to why this might have occurred at this stage of the war? Would he have been involved with a prisoner swap, or maybe he escaped?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
