Those sketches are wonderfully evocative - thankyou for sharing them.  They are both fresh and refreshing.

Hi Bob - have just found your topic thread and have enjoyed it immensely! I have a book:  Farrell, F. A. (1920), The  51st Division War Sketches, Edinburgh, Jack Ltd and I think you can also access it and the plates on-line (you may already know it and if so I apologise) this is the link  http://archive.org/details/51sthighlanddivi00farr
When I saw your work it reminded me of the book which if I remember correctly has about 60 water colour sketches. I did count the pages but that was a while ago. I am not a painter but I do enjoy drawing with pencils and occasionally I use water soluble pencils. I have long had ideas for WW1 projects that I would like to try - this book gave me some ideas and now your work has rekindled my motivation! Thank you for sharing and I will continue to follow your work.

Sorry Bob - I meant to say in my last, on the right side of the page when you open the link, you have the option of downloading the book in a file format or reading it online.

Cheers
Marjorie

Hello Marjorie,

Thank you for the link and I am glad to hear about your thoughts on doing a WWI project. I hope to see some of your creations if you plan on sharing them.

Oops - I seem to have reached my 2 meg limit. I could not understand why I could no longer upload pictures. I will just put a link to my Flickr account (until I use up my quota there too).

This is a loose sketch of a French officer.

I was inspired by the expression of this young German soldier from a 1916 photo.

Here is a sketch of a WWI Red Cross Nurse. I've been leaning toward the Sumi style with the ink.
