I was looking at 'Vera Brittain-A Life' by Paul Berry and Mark Bostridge, and noticed a reference to Vera Brittain receiving 'Ardours and Endurances' from her brother Edward Brittain, as a birthday present in 1917. I had never heard of this poet. Anyone familiar with his work ? Regards, Michael Bully

Hi Michael,

Nichols,  Robert Malise Bowyer  (1893–1944) has an entry in the Oxford DNB (the original DNB entry written by Edmund Blunden, but revised for the Oxford edition).

I have my grandmother's copy of his book "The Assault and other war poems" for which see http://1914-1918.inv...1 - unfortunately the photograph seems to have gone from the original link. I'll try and re-link it.

Thank you for the information and appreciate the photograph Sea Jane. Have been reading about contact that Robert Nichols had with Siegfried Sassoon, which features in Jean Moorcroft Wilson's biography of Sassoon.
