John,
Any idea when this visit was supposed to have taken place.

Hi Alex,
Gordon Taylor mentions it in his book Sopwith 7309 p156. All he says is that he was asked to give a bit of a show to Pershing and that on the same day a SPAD pilot killed himself by spinning into the ground, which he saw from a machine gun practice ground near by. I think it would have been when 19 Squadron were at Estrée-Blanche with SPADs from 31 May and 14 August. The only one I can find is, according to Derek Palmer 19 Squadron History Lt Riggs on a test flight in B1667 crashed into a field near the aerodrome and was killed on 22 July.

Pershing was around but was he at the drome?

cheers
