Bryn Hammond, Alan Jeffreys and I are all in Gallipoli I fear! Actually I'm delighted - it's an IWM & AWM combined trip! Hooray!

Darn!

I was looking forward to using the 4 day weekend to recover from the hangovers you inflict on us.

Likewise distinctly possible, especially as the April date slid by unnoticed and several regulars have been on interesting trips since we last got together.  Shame that some of the IWM pals can't make it, but perhaps Alan and co will be able to come and share tales of the Salonika foray.  Also hoping that Mark will be onshore.

Sorry guys I will be in France. If Mark does attend please ask him not to save me a ham, egg & chips this time; the vinegar made the chips taste like pickled potato

Studying my diary carefully, I suspect I might be amongst those possibly able to attend. Slightly dependent on the lady wife's plans for collecting assorted daughters from the educational outposts of the Queen's Realm, but looks OK-ish at the moment.

Now that I'm in the non-drinking mode I'll have to pass on this glittering opportunity.  I've seen London when I've been drunk and I shudder to think of what it must be like when one is sober.

What do you mean, or imply, or suspect by the three dots? Why do you suspect something? What do you suspect?

I've heard him called worse, James! It's fair to say, though, that Tony's Dad's undercarriage is, by his own admission, not what it was!

I was in the non-drinking mode when I was last in London, December 1994.  I had a couple of non-alcoholic beers in The Australian pub about a block from the Earl's Court tube station.

This business of quitting drinking is an insidious habit that reasserts itself more and more often as the years go by.  Before you know it your life is ruined.  There's a 12-step program for recovering from this unfortunate condition.  Here are the first three steps:

1.  We admitted that we were powerless over our need to quit drinking -- that our lives had become unmanageable by our abstinence from alcohol.
2.  Came to believe that a GWF greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3.  Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of GWF Moderators, imperfect and occasionally wrong though they may be.

It would be way too unctuous to list the other nine steps, particularly in a thread about a planned pub-crawl.  I hope Broomers has five beers for me, even if they fall far short of our well-known American brewing standards.

OK Broomers, you tossed it up:  "What are the 39 Steps?"  (The 39 Steps are.... 'boom!')

I am also a tad concerned that Mr B's earnest hunt for 23p means that on the quiet he has gone and joined HMRC and, give their current ethos will be shaking us all upside down for perceived unpaid revenues accruing to the Exchequer...

Very true, and yet it recently carried me around various parts of France for 10 days, and this very afternoon it creaked its way round a walk of about 4 miles at Cuckmere Haven. I shall be there on Wednesday evening  —  but possibly in a handcart ...

May well be along on Wednesday. I must be the only member of the IWM's WWI fraternity not to have followed Pete to Gallipoli. Just like the Royal Family we are not all allowed to travel together!
