Biff,

Here is a WW1 German Stormtrooper model that may give you some ideas.

No self respecting storm trooper would have worn body armour whilst attacking. He would have been as slow as a snail and absolutely knackered after 100 meters!!! Used in vulnerable locations by sentries / machine gunners.

TT,
I am sure you are correct, and the model maker used some artistic licence. However, here is a photograph of the body armour in use by other WW1 German troops.

Biffo,

I do not know.
Also, there were different versions of the Stormtroopers equipment and what they wore, so here are some more examples.

Another squad of Stormtroopers/Shock Troops. Note their helmet spikes removed, and array of stick grenades, presumably those on their backs will be used by other members of the squad.

Never said body armour was not worn. Not worn for mobile combat. Many photos exist of Germans wearing the armour and purporting to be storm troops however always staged and behind lines. Often see armour being worn in trenches by garrison troops, observers, snipers and machine gunners but never combat storm troops.

Nice additional photos and thans for posting
