I have recently purchased a Memorial Plaque for John Edwin Anthony 546TS  R.N.R., he served as a trimmer  aboard H.M.Trawler Drumtochty  and lost his life on Sunday 5th March 1916. John is buried in Dunkirk Town Cemetery.  A second man William James Harwood 8972DA  a deckhand  also died on that Sunday, his body was never recovered. They both have  "cause of death other than disease, accident or enemy action" on their reports. Would the cause or reason for their deaths be recorded on their service papers?  So far I've been unable to find any record of a ship's log for HMT Drumtochty  at the TNA. Any help or pointers on where I might be able to get any information would be gratefully received.

Both were drowned (accidentally). More details may be on their RNR records. The originals of these are held by the Fleet Air Arm Museum and there are (bad) microfilm copies at Kew (not on-line).
DRUMTOCHTY (an Admiralty- hired Aberdeen trawler, Admiralty No.357) was based at Dover (HMS ATTENTIVE III) at the time of their deaths in March 1916. She was sunk by a mine on 29 Jan 1918.

Thank you for  the information . I will have to obtain a copy of  John's service record. I had read about the loss of HMT Drumtochty in 1918, she lost  11 out of 13 crew members.
