Hi,

Can anyone tell me which battalions of the Lancashire Fusiliers were involved in the Capture of Chocolate Hill (8/8/1915).

Thanks,

Frank Bartholomew

I believe it was the 9th LF - whatever, it was a unit from 11th (Northern) Division. Have a look at Chris' main website under that division.

I'm currently researching the career of a soldier from 1914 onwards(which ended abruptly in June 1917!!!) of the 11/Manchester Regiment (part of the 11th Div) and can confirm Paul's statement that the 9th was the only L.F's bn. involved in the Chocolate Hill assault.

Frank,

See if you can get hold of Ray Westlake's book 'British Regiments at Gallipoli.'   Pages 61 and 62 give details of the 9th (Service) Battalion's actions in August 1915.   Have a look too at pages VI and VII which have a good map by Banks which should help

Regards
Michael D.R.
