Just a minor point but can anyone tell me which of a Field Company's 4 Sections were in the left half, and which in the right?

Hello Sue

The four sections each had the same number of men and the same equipment so it probably was just a distinction for parades and admin, rather than for any specialist roles they might perform. Nos 1 and 2 would then have been the right half and Nos 3 and 4 the left.

Thankyou for that Ron. The reason I asked is because I read in the War Diary that on August 28th 1916: 'Right half Co. are engaged on wiring practice, with concertina system etc. Left half Co. are engaged constructing concertina.' My grandfather was in No. 2 Section - so now I know what he was doing.

Thanks again.

Sue
