Although I do not believe he was a user of the Great War Forum, many pals will know of or have heard of Tony Noyes. I am sad to report that he passed away on 12 June 2012 after a long illness with cancer.

Tony was a stalwart of the Western Front Association; he served on its committee for many years; was my predecessor as its Chairman; and latterly had the well-deserved honour of being a Vice-President of the Association. Among his many accomplishments he was instrumental in re-establishing a ceremony and silence at the Cenotaph in London on 11 November each year.

I shall miss him.

I received the following information from Christina today

"His funeral will take place at Barham Crematorium at 1.20pm on 26th June. The arrangements are being made by Dilnot Smith and Son, Walmer, and the phone number is 01304 380 914. Barham is north of Dover, just off the A2, and an appropriate place for Tony as Barham Down was the site of many military camps during WWI."

Sad news indeed, Tony was a great bloke. Certainly gave me some inspiration.

Any news of Teddy?

Sad news indeed.  Tony was our guide for a WFA branch tour of Verdun which I went on way back in c. 1994.  My first proper introduction to the French sector.  I met up with him several times when I was living in France in 1996-97 and tramped around parts of the Argonne Forest, the Chemin des Dames and the tunnels of the Butte de Vauquois.

He will be greatly missed.

The news of Tony's death has only just reached me in this corner of Turkey. I am so sad to hear of his passing.
I knew Tony for many many years having worked together in the deserts of Iran and Saudi Arabia. He got me interested in the Western Front and was always a welcome visitor to our house in Belgium which we would use as a base to tramp the battlefields together.
Tony was the Godfather to my eldest son and, for a Christening present, bought some WW1 china which my son has continued to collect.
He was a great friend and advisor, having this uncanny ability to go to the nub of a problem - how many times after receiving his council did I utter the words "Why didn't I think of that, Noyes?"
My sympathies to his family and friends.
