Edwinnie,
   the only record of James Slinger 73101 on Ancestry is his MIC. No service records found.

the MIC says he served in the 8th brigade RFA and his medal entitlement was 1914 star BWM and VM. He entered a theatre of war on 19 Aug 1914.

have posted in the message forum asking if anyone has this James Slinger in their tree.
