Robert

I have just sent an email with some newspaper clippings ... as there is a degree of overlap between your project and mine, it would be good to meet and exchange information.

Regards

Nigel

Robert

Did you receive the email with the newspaper clippings?

There are 183 men (fatalities and survivors) from 10th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles in my Belfast Presbyterians spreadsheet and I have the following
  • photos (mainly from Belfast Evening Telegraph) of 48 men
  • gravestone photos for 20 men
  • 1901/1911 Census information for 84 men (research on-going)
  • Church War Memorials for the congregations with which 162 of the men were associated
The men come from congregations from all over Belfast, but I would be able to filter the records to fit the men from the Village/Sandy Row area - i.e. Great Victoria Street and Donegall Road congregations - or a wider South Belfast area, taking in, for example, Donegall Pass, Crescent, Fitzroy Avenue, Fisherwick, Fountainville and Ulsterville.

Alternatively, I could filter the records according to addresses.

I am happy to share this information.

Leaving aside the Presbies, I am sure that will be a lot of Sandy Row/Village men in my newspaper pictures library of over 10,000 servicemen.

Irish Independent, October 1916. Most Rev. Dr. Crozier, addressing shipyard workers at Queen’s Island, Belfast, yesterday, on prohibition during the war, referred to his visit to the Somme, of his meeting with many Belfast men, and of christening a trench, and their request, “Donegall Pass.” He appealed to his hearers to kill the awful enemy of drunkenness. It was the working man who could arouse the nation.
