For those interested in Nurses from the Great War.

Armagh Gazette 24 August 1918

The name of Miss N.E. Whitsitt V.A.D. nurse in the1st Western General Hospital Liverpool, has been brought to the notice of the Secretary of State for War for valuable nursing services rendered in connection with the war. Miss Whitsitt is a daughter of an esteemed Armagh citizen, Mr William Whitsitt. All the members of this family have done and are doing their bit for King and Empire.

The name of Mrs E A Adams matron of the Auxiliary Military Hospital Wellingborough, daughter of Mr GH Smith KG and an Armagh lady, married to an Armagh man in business in London, is included in the nurses mentioned. Her eldest son is in the Australian forces and the youngest is discharged minus his left hand and her daughter is nursing

Any member with details of Nurse N.E. Whitsitt or details of any Co Armagh nurses,will be very gratefully received.

Her name was Nannie Whitsitt. Her sister, Emily, was also a nurse. They are recorded on the Roll of Honour in St Mark's Church, Armagh.

Off topic, sorry...

For anyone interested in WW1 hospitals the 1st Western General Hospital, Liverpool is now Fazakerley Hospital (University Hospital Aintree).
It has, wrongly, been identified in earlier posts as Sefton General Hospital, Smithdown Road (formerly Toxteth Park Workhouse). Sefton General, now an Asda supermarket, did have soldiers there during the Great War but it was known as Smithdown Road Infirmary then.
