I had the privilege of seeing the Cross of Sacrifice and sword replaced at Bethleem Farm West Cemetery near Messines this week. We filmed the process for a forthcoming documentary but I thought members here would like to see a few photos.

Paul

Thanks for the photos. It's always interesting to see how these items are constructed.

Yes, thanks Paul

Chris, if you haven't already seen it, in the latest CWGC newsletter (Click) there's an interesting photo-feature on the refurbishment of the rings in the roof of the Menin Gate - amazing just what  can be done with scaffolding if you know what you're doing.

I hadn't seen the newsletter, so many thanks for pointing it out to me. I see what you mean about the scaffolding. It's a very practical solution, but one would need to have good faith in the structural integrity of the formwork. It reminds me of those window cleaners who lower their work platforms over the sides of tall buildings.

Cheers

Hi Paul

Re my WW2 post I've just found this

http://1914-1918.inv... +cemetery +ww2

I saw the scaffolding at Bethleem Farm West on your TV program but have only just seen these photos.  Indeed a privilege to be there as you say.
Many (belated) thanks for posting them.  We were there in September and again in December (both very wet and muddy days).

Judy
