Hi all
I am researching my Great Great Uncle,12185 William James Taylor, of the Kings Royal Rifle Corps, B 1884, Died 26/03/1918 from wounds received on March 23rd 1918.
To cut a long story short, some of the photos i have of William show him as a Sgt, but he died a Rifleman / Private.
Does anyone know what i can do to find out the reasoning behind his loss of rank? I cannot find a service record, the KRRC museum could not help, and i am unsure of the location of the KRRC war diary. I would be most grateful for any information, as not even my Grandmother knew, and she was most inquisitive, so i doubt the family even knew the real reason.
Kind regards,
Richard

His MIC doesn't show that he served overseas as a Sgt (MIC's are not 100% but 95% + ). Can you post the pictures ?

Reversion could have been for a number of reasons - he may have asked to be dropped back , he may have only been promoted temporarily or it may even have been a disciplinary measure.

March 1918 - He was in 12th Bn holding the bridghead at Offoy .. perhaps wounded in night figting as the germans tried to rush the Offoy bridge, ... from what I can tell from the 1918 KRRC Chronicle (based on war dairies). By late 1917-1918 lots of reorgansiations were going on and units were getting very depleted so he could well have been temporarily promoted previously  until some drafts appeared (10th Bn was disbanded and men posted to 12th Bn in january 1918). As said above many possible reasons to revert and little chance of finding out why. Looks a very smart rifleman! That photo was taken in UK it appears (does it say Woking?)  in what looks like quite a fresh uniform. he looks to have been a private when went to France in July 1915 so that must be on leave (?) at home (1916-1917?)

I didnt think about that battiscombe, Cheers. He must have been on leave, or, he may have been in the reserves prior ot 1914 as a possibilty. I must face facts that i may never know. I am hoping one day i will find out. Kirky mentioned perhaps paying some researchers to have a delve into into for me when  saw him on Saturday, for which i forgot to get the information! Doh!!!! :-). Thanks everyone,
Rich
