This post card shows my Grandfather, back row, last man on the right.

Could anyone tell me from the appearance of the men and uniform whether they might be in France or still in England?



He was honourably discharged from shrapnel wounds, his certificate which i have along with the three war medals and silver discharged pin brooch, was dated 18th February 1918.

Given that the address of the posstcard printer is in England I think it's most likely this was taken prior to deployment over seas

I'd agree with Andy on that - wearing 1914 pattern leather equipment.

He would not have served overseas with 5th Reserve Battalion.All its 10 fatalities in'Soldiers Died'are men who died of disease or accident in the U.K.between 1915 and 1918.He would have been sent to one of the several battalions on active service overseas.

Thanks for the information. I have his service number and know he joined when he was 18 in 1916,he lived near Maidstone, Kent. Im guessing he may have been called up. At present there is little else I know other than I could trace no records at kew, but was told it may be easier to follow a trail back from his medals.
