We are embarking on our first battlefiled trip this September. Having never driven abroad before I am not doing any "silly o'clock" starts. I will be taking it easy and we have a very flexible plan, which we hope will give us an overview, from which we can make subsequent trips in future years.

The only "absolute" thing on this trip is a visit to Dernacourt Cemetary Extension on 6th September to visit and photograph the grave of Charlie Flanders, my husbands Great Uncle. I can take 10 other photos. (This is not meant to sound mean, but I haven't got a clue how long to takes to locate a grave)  If anyone would like a photo please let me know details by 26th August.

Regards

Jennifer

I was there last week. Go to the CWGC site and download the plan before you go it makes locating graves easier.

Hello Jennifer.

I am hoping to get to Dernancourt in late August, but if not would welcome any photo's of the men of the 47th Battalion. Australian Imperial Force.

Also, and not to sound flippant, if you have time.

Some pic's of the railway enbankment and bridge where the Australians stopped the German advance on Amiens in early April 1918.

This was there main line of defence from the German advance.

Many thanks.

As i say.Hope to get there myself soon.

Cheers

If you do not get there in August let me know via a pm and we will take any pics of the graves and general views of the cemetery.

Not to appear thick,  I do not know the embankment and bridge you mention, but if you want to give me general directions or map reference  I will do my best to find them. Are these within walking distance of the cemetery?  We will not be purchasing a sat nav or any similar piece of equipment. We have ordered lots of maps and hope to get around ok. (wife driving, husband navigating - hope this isn't a mixture for a row)

Keithfazzani Thank you I have accessed the cwdc site for the plan.

Jennifer.

Many thanks for your offer, but have been granted leave for the trip which i'm very pleased about.

I'm sure that the above locations will fit into place once your there as there only a matter of yards from the Cemetary.

Thanks again for your offer.

Cheers.
