Morning,

Would anyone have the War Diary for

2nd Battalion, Suffolk Regiment for September 1918

at all, please.

I am researching a man wounded 23 or 24 September 1918 who succumbed over a year later.

Many thanks

Graeme

Hi
Battalion was in sunken road Beaumetz les Cambrai, astride the Bapaume-Cambrai road during which time they went over a sand model of Flesquieres in preparation for the attack at the Canal du Nord on 27th

To add to Martin; the war diary has the platoon commanders reccing the assembly positions on the 23rd whilst the men were examining the model. There were 14 OR wounded but does not say how. The 24th saw only more company training.

Sadly not much else of note.

Kind regards

Colin

Morning both and many thanks for the info.

Colin,

Is it possible to post the entry for the 23rd, please, I'd like to add it to my research. (Sounds like some sort of accident ?),

many thanks,

Graeme

Hi

Further to the above his service record indicates that he received a shrapnel wound to his thigh, this eventually leading to his death,

Regards

Graeme

Graeme

Please see below - sadly not much help. It would presumably be a training accident or possibly an unlucky shell. The only way you may find out would be to find a personal account.

Kind regards

Colin
