And of course huge problem with World at War ,was the politicans interviewd still with a axe to grind and basically lieing ,ie Tony Eden going on  about Crete condeming the man in charge on the ground ,when he was told not to defend the airfields ect by Churchill , Edens comment was "Why could he not put tanks on the runways " well you had told him not to and Crete was of no use and the naval anchorages indefensable any way , oh and rember not one mention of Ultra , film from 1944 ment to be 1940 it goes on !And yes Burns series was superb .

I can understand objections to adverse comments before the series has even aired (I, incidentally, am not anti-Sky; Mrs B is anti me watching too much cricket), but 2,000 years in 7 hours (including advertisement breaks) with lots of CGI and Russell Brand doesn't make me feel this is earth-shattering televisual history somehow.

After my previous post criticising other people pre-judging things, I confess that I have to agree about your Russell Brand comment.
Is there another Russell Brand that I am not aware of perhaps?
I don't know why he was on the Olympics closing ceremony myself. Everyone to their own I suppose?

True. But it may be interesting to see how others see us.

One only has to participate in discussion boards (not necessarily history base dones) which are not mainly Brit-orientated to see that there are often differences between our perceptions of ourselves and those who view us from elsewhere.

I haven't actually seen anything to suggest this will be anything other than British made... the stuff on the Sky website sounds like it is one of their own productions.

Although Sky Atlantic is primarily high-quality American imports from cable networks ("Boardwalk Empire", "Mad Men", "Game of Thrones", etc), they do sometimes use as a platform for similarly-minded homegrown shows, such as the enjoyable "Hit and Miss" earlier this year.

If it turns out to be absolute fluff it will be unusual for the channel.
