Can any provide some information on the above please? I can find no mention in the MIC on line service at the NA or Ancestry, nor can I find service papers for him. A look through my copies of the Army List 1914,15,16 and 18 shows no name. Given the medals are stamped RFC he presumably was not serving after 1 April 1918.

I would appreciate any help?

Thanks

You could try seeing if he appears in WO 338 (free, large, downloads). This would point you in the direction of a service record

Update 18.1.13

Thank you. I believe I have found my man to be Hugh Norman McLeven-Roberts or Hugh Norman McLaren-Roberts. From his service papers he appears to have been an EO. Interesting point there is a comment that states " services not required, considered to young". He was located at Farnboro in March 1918 which I assume is why his medals are stamped RFC.

Claymore 123,

There are two RAF officer's service records for him at the National Archives:  AIR 76/428/195 lists a birthdate of 7 August 1899
AIR 76/326/148 gives his birthdate as 7 May 1899
You can download copies for a fee--if you have not already done so.
The RAF lists him as "Hugh Norman McLaren-Roberts," but a family tree on Ancestry.com and the Probate Calendar entry for his
death, in 1928, both list "Hugh Norman McLaren Roberts."  He was born, and died, at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.  It is
likely he signed-up for service as "McLaren-Roberts" rather than his correct surname to help conceal that he was under age
at the time.  If you have an Ancestry.com membership (I do not), you can access additional biographical information.

Regards,

Trelawney

Trelawney,

Many thanks for your comments. I have since copied the relevant documents from Ancestry.com.
