I came across this interesting WW1 photo album on the NAA site. It belonged to Lieut. Richard Gavin CASEY (later Governor-General of Australia), starting with his voyage from Australia to Egypt on the Transport ORVIETO. Later photos are of Egypt, Gallipoli, England and France. I've transcribed the annotations for the first 10 pages, up to the arrival in Egypt (the naval-related photos), so that they will be found via Google. Interesting to see the photos of the officers of the Emden being transferred to HMS Hampshire.

You can view the whole album via the 1st link below, however the lower resolution images are thumbnail-sized for some reason. I've included the individual page links - they are easier to view and you can zoom in/out.

Title: World War I [includes photographs taken during R G Casey's service in Melbourne, on the RMS Orvieto in transit, Egypt, Gallipoli, England and France]
Date: 1914 - 1919
Barcode: 30112255

regards,

Martin

Fantastic collection Martin, thanks for posting. I know a man who's father served (RAMC) on the "Euripedes" at some point, and also saw a Japanese ship hit. Possibly the Sakaki? I will send him a link to this.

Cheers Mike

No worries, Mike. There's some great stuff in the NAA's collection. I often come across things when I'm searching for something else.

Martin
