The Forum has assembled a national network of volunteers who are willing to take photographs in their locality for fellow members. This is an invaluable resource for anyone whose research projects have strayed beyond their own immediate vicinity, such as the national and international projects listed in this section.

The original thread can be found here in the Photo and Document Requests Forum.

Most areas of the UK are covered, but don't let that deter you from offering your services, as it it useful to have several volunteers in each county to reduce travelling times etc.

Also, we have begun to stray beyond the UK, and it would be good to make this a truly international resource to reflect the world war and our own international membership. This is the current list, updated from the original thread. If anyone would like to be removed or added, please let me know, and I'll update it accordingly.

If requesting photographs, please send a private message or e-mail to the appropriate volunteer. Contacting a member can be done via the Members button immediately below the Remembering Today feature at the top right of the screen.

Kate, thanks for drawing attention to this.

Is there any possibility of some sort of organisation of the information shared in this thread? I mean, perhaps initially  a simple list of areas (maybe by county) with the Forum ID names of the volunteers listed. Or a map of the UK (or even Europe or.. ) divided into areas which you'd click on and it would give you a list of people in that region? Or, preferably, a link to a database which would be inaccessible to non-registered users (as not everyone wishes to highlight their location publicly on the Internet) giving names and locality?

Or something better and more imaginative than this non-geek can think of!

And, to show that I'm not intent on creating work for other people, I'd volunteer to share in the input of data into such a resource.

Gwyn

Ah, I posted while you were amending your post! I'm still mildly concerned about highlighting people's locations so visibly. Lost in a thread is one thing, or on a profile not visible to non-members...

A bit further afield but if any one should need something from Rhein-Main area of Hessen, Germany I will see what I can do. Although, it is not as common to find war memorials and things so whilst I will always look I may not find anything in particular. However, should anyone have any request for the area I will see what I can do.

All the best,

Tim

Lancashire (East) - Croonaert; Andy Fitton

Sorry about this, but due to various personal projects and other committments, I'll be unable to cover East Lancs for a few months now.

However, if anyone wants anything photographing in the Burnley, Nelson or Colne area of Lancashire, I'll be able to do this as my own projects (and life, and job!) take me to these areas anyway.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Dave.

I'm happy to do Lincoln and around, but it must be a long time since I volunteered to do Nottingham. Would you change that to East Notts - I don't often go to Nottingham itself. Thanks & a bit sorry!

I dont think i have seen any CWGC graves around my area, but no doubt somebody will tell me there are, but what there are plenty are monuments in the sites where battles took place and plenty of 1916 type IRA graves around here, also if any body is researching that stuff, my neighbours house has a plaque on it saying it was destroyed by the Black + Tans, i am sure there must be plenty of that stuff knocking around here as well. If you want just let me know, and i shall get my underwater camera out and take some pics.

Sorry Martin, after the war the British goverment payed compensation to the Irish who had suffered at the hands of the Black+Tans so they payed for it to be rebuilt. But the owners decided to do his family tree about 25 years ago and he got the plaque from somewhere, whether he had it made or found it in the barn i dont know. He is dead now but his wife and son are still there
