Trench art

Hi

I have a lighter that I have been told is trench art. It looks like it was made from a brass nut and uniform buttons. Is this correct and were they commonly made? Any information welcome.

This is a reasonably common style of Great War lighter.  There is quite a lot of previous discussion on trench art - try this search 'trench art'  but Jane Kimball's website should give you all the info you need:
