Heres  a memorial on the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf. And one also on the banks of the Rhine a few miles away in Kaisersworth. "MO"

  Here's one my favorites.  The 1870-71 memorial in Wiesbaden.  We live across the park and I often come and sit below the monument.

I find this one intriguing for its heraldic, conceptual design. It's on the church wall in Endingen and this photo was taken in the snow of December 2004.

Thanks for the site and for the amazing photos you posted. The kidnapped one captured me the most as it makes me shudder to think what happened to this poor man at the hands of the Russians.

Today I have been on the Düsseldorf South cemetery. As I posted earlier one of my favorite inscription/memorials there is the memorial plaquue of Leutnant Ibach. I could not resist to shoot some pictures of this lost soul near Ypres.

Each village, town and city and Germany honors its dead from both WW's in special cemetery sections which are always beautifully cared for. Today I visited the town of Wernigerode, Harz mountains and found this WW1 section

Could not resist to post this nicely cared memorial in the small town of Braunlage, Harz mountains, where I spend a couple of days:

"Lieutenant Colonel (Medical Corps) Dr. A. Aumann, head of Braunlage reserve hospital, saved our town in April 1945 from pointless combat action with the support of like-minded and risking his own life"

The small village of Schierke, an enchanted and outlying place in the high Harz mountain range, was the place of several sanatoriums pre war. During WW1 some changed to reserve hospital status. I believe the majority of WW1 dead deceased and buried here , were soldiers that did not recover from their injuries. Here are my today's pictures:

Musketier Hugo Winkel died homeward bound on 15.11.1918. He did not make it into the hospital
