FILE - OOMER - ref.  COR/1/4/229  - date: 13 Apr 1918 [from Scope and Content] Carramdad, 32, and ABBAS, Nawas, about 32, deceased both greasers on SS Nyanza, torpedoed off Brighton Light Vessel and beached off Bishopstone, bodies too decomposed to identify

FILE - MOLLISON - ref.  COR/1/4/232  - date: 15 Apr 1918 [from Scope and Content] Gilbert Alexander, 4th engineer, Fallside, Drumlithe, Kincardine, 30, body recovered from SS Nyanza off Bishopstone

Out of interest.

It says here that G A Mollisons body was recovered, but he listed on Tower Hill Memorial. Why would that be?

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...asualty=2972254

I can find no trace of either OOMER Carramdad or ABBAS Nawas. Would this be something to do with the spelling of the names?

ABBAS NAWAS is on CWGC as ABBAS NAWAZ.
OOMER CARRAMDAD is on CWGC as KARAMDAD UMAR

Possibly Mollison's burial location is unknown (or buried at sea).

Thanks Terry, I have now found them on the Bombay Memorial. I suppose whatever happened to their European shipmates body also happened to theirs.

I suspect that they were buried in common graves which could not be traced after the war or the cemetery authority refused permission to erect headstones on common graves and so they now appear on the memorials.
