I've just obtained a 1914-15 Star named to Capt E. Fairclough, South Lancashire Regiment. I believe him to be Egerton Fairclough. My research on him has shown the following:
Son of John and Mary Elizabeth Fairclough, of Latchford Grange, Warrington;
Husband of Nina Marion Harvey Fairclough (nee Sorell), of St. Cuthbert's, Ledbury, Herefordshire.
Educated at Aston Hall and Harrow.
Secretary and Director of Chas. Moore and Co., Ltd., Chemical Manufacturers, Lymm, Cheshire.
Served in Territorial Force from 1905, promoted Capt. 1912. Mobilised with Regt. at outbreak of War.
Promoted to T/Major 29/4/16; relinquished this rank on 2/6/17.
Promoted to A/Major while employed on HQ’s. 28/7/17
Promoted to A/Lt Col while commanding the 1st/4th Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment, 24/10/17
Confirmed as substantive Major with precedence from 4/3/17
Twice previously wounded.
Killed in Action 10/4/18, aged 33
Buried in the Bethune Town Cemetery
Commemorated on the war memorial in Helsby, Cheshire.
I was wondering if anyone has other information on him: where he served, how he died, etc.
