This one is a definite with no discussion!!!!   biggrin.gif

25th July 2006 - Towneley Hall war memorial, Burnley meet up between 10:00 to 11:30 am (directions will be posted in the next couple of days).

For all those who went to the first "Accrington Pals" forum meeting a couple of years ago, this is "part 2", concentrating on "Z Company" (the "Burnley Pals") and all participants will be supplied with a Burnley Pals info pack to compliment the Accrington Pals pack that was supplied previously. (even if you didn't go to the first meet, I could possibly reprint it for you).

We, so far, have 3 members who will definitely be there - myself, Peter Beckett (who will have travelled quite a distance to be here) and Tom Morgan (Peter's chauffeur  tongue.gif ). - we three alone must make it worth turning up for!!! laugh.gif

I realise that this date and time could be a little difficult for some who would wish to attend, but I'm afraid it's non-negotiable.

All those who wish to attend, please mention your intention here so I know how many fact sheets to print.

Many thanks,

Dave.

I may well be OK for this as it's between summer camp and the Old Trafford Test! Please let me have details.

Paul,

If I'm going I could pick you up from Preston railway station, if that helps.

I'll post directions as soon as I regain access to my scanner. (I take it that directions from the M65 will suffice?).

Dave,

You can put me down on the list of those attending. I couldn't make the last one, so I'd appreciate part 1 of the notes if that's possible.

Paul,

We'll speak nearer the date about meeting at Preston, but there won't be a problem with collecting you on the way if you can make it.

Intrested to see Agenda.

No agenda as such, but will be a similar event to the "A Coy" meet. This will take us through places such as the reruiting office(s), drill squares, training areas, memorials, graves etc.etc. all relating to "D Coy", down to the point of departure for N.Wales (in other words areas relative to the Burnley Pals between Sept.1914 and feb.1915). Non-Pals related, there will also be the opportunity to see 2 VCs and a few sights relative to the 5th Bn East Lancs.

(was the last one really nearly 3 years ago!!!?  ohmy.gif   (Accy Pals meeting Nov.2003)

As this looks to be quite a popular meet, would it be ok if I was to "re-do" the A Coy fact sheet in CD format rather than re-print it? (save me some (expensive on my photo-printer!) ink!). It's not needed for this meet and is purely for interest only.

I will be printing the D Coy sheets though as it will probably be of interest "in situ".

Dave,

Would it be even easier to e-mail the A Coy fact sheet to those who want it? I'd be happy to receive it by e-mail if you could add me to the list.

I'd love to come but I suspect that I will be at work.  I would also be interested in the A Coy fact sheet; by e mail, as Ken suggests, would be acceptable.

If anything like the last time, a superbly organised walk round town with Dave acting as our guide. Then off to the nearest pub for a gossip about things WW1.

Look at it like this, if Peter Beckett thinks it worth coming all the way from Australia for, then you wouldnt want to miss it.  smile.gif

Just spent the last two days doing a reconnaisance for the forthcoming trip (visiting sites, taking and obtaining photos and info, etc for the factsheet). There's more left to see today than I realised!

Anyway, while I was researching, I ,erm... "volunteered" for an event that might be of interest to anyone in the local area on Saturday... see HERE.

Here're the directions to the Hall from the Burnley Council website (don't worry - I'll draw a clearer map nearer the date!)...

"By car From the west leave the M65 at junction 9 and follow the signs for Halifax (A646), the Towneley Hall.
From the east Towneley Hall is signposted from junction 10 and 11.
Towneley Hall is also signposted from Burnley town centre."
