I am Currently Writing a Masters on the Experiences of Irish Prisoners of War during the Great war and would be grateful of any help anyone can give me.   If you have any pictures letters diaries or even Stories you could share - I would greatly appreciate it.

On the other hand if someone is trying to research an Irish POW, please contact me I will have a bash and see if I have anything in my records.

Sorry I can help you. But you did ask for information here is my Grandfathers discharge papers and a copy of his MIC is attached. What I do know is that is was listed as Mia in the retreat from Mons 1914. I have a researcher looking into the national archives in Kew and I will be requesting information from the red cross. I'll let you know what I get.
I do know that he enlisted in the free state army but have no further information on that yet.

Do you know what Para. 32(f) Army reserve regulations is?

You may be interested in one John Davern AIF - 16Bn I recall - who was captured 8th August 1915 - Gallipoli - POW Turks - later repatriated through Austria to Switzerland and home for Feb 1918 ish.

His records are online with AWM I think his no was 2472 - sorry not sure about that but you should find him at the AWM on Red Cross files and the link to his records. The recount of his capture - saved by German Officier from Turkish troops particularly interesting -

He was originally from Kilfenora Co. Clare.

Go to link above - scroll down to you get to Rfn. Alex Greer (how he was treated on capture; surivived war) and William Stevenson (also wounded and captured 1st July 1916; died as POW) pics and account/newspaper clipping.

Also, if you go my 'Ballymena' website and go to the section covering 1918 - you will find loads of guys who were scooped in March offensive. Pics and details on a fair few of them.

i have only just joined this forum not sure what im doing really but im trying to find out info on rifleman John Fleming of the Royal Irish Rifles he was a pow from 21.3.1918 until 31.12.1918. Thats all I know really - not much to go on but any help would be great.
