Pearce W

This is Pte Wilfred Pearce 15256 of the 8th Bn, Gloucestershire Regt. He was killed on the 3rd July 1916 at La Boisselle. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

He was my Great Uncle. I found him by accident about a year ago whilst researching my family tree. St Mary's Church, interestingly, has two more plaques in the porch commemorating those who were wounded and those who served. My Grandfather Leonard is on the latter, whilst the third brother Roderic is on the former.

I have seen this done in a couple of churches around the area, whilst doing some family research, and wondered if it is peculiar to the area? Here in Cambridgeshire, I have never seen a list of those who served.

Hi
Wonder if you could help, Ive found my great great uncle Albert Fancote died 25 September 1915 the 1st day of the battle of the Loos. He was born Smethwick in Staffordshire, I wonder if his name is on the Cenotaph there. as I dont live near there. He was in the 2nd Battalion Royal Warwickshire Reg.
Ive posted 2 photos on another part of this site, I dont know if one of those could be him.
Thanks for any help

Hi Susan9681

Smethwick is quite a distance from where I live. When I get to that area I will have a look for you.
